San Francisco, CA USA

The first Black Thought Wall we activated in San Francisco, CA was in direct response to the murder of George Floyd during which he called out for his mother in the spirit realm. For Juneteenth 2020, Black Thought Project creator, Alicia Walters, felt called to create a space for Black folx to name and honor the ancestors who were so present, and to ask for their support to strengthen us in a time of great turmoil and possibility. Our second Black Thought Wall in San Francisco in August 2023 engaged Black families around the care we need and deserve and what becomes possible when ALL Black people are deeply cared for.

Deep appreciation for the African American Art and Culture Complex, San Francisco Human Rights Commission, Brittni Chicuata, Expecting Justice, YMCA Bayview Hunters Point, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, photographers Demetrius Philip and Kevin Jones, and all the community leaders, volunteers, artists and residents who came through to protect Black people’s expression, share their hearts and ancestral blessings and prayers.
