It all started when…
In 2018, Alicia Walters received an idea for how to experiment with Centering Blackness in public. An accessible, highly replicable, seemingly simple way to have Black folx reflecting on our lives from a place of love while the multiracial communities around us protected, witnessed and honored our thoughts.
Just six short months later, The Black Thought Project was born.
Four years and thousands of responses later, we have learned a great deal about how to work with communities to Center Blackness in process and public space. It has been affirming, deep and joy-filled to see so many different kinds of Black people of all ages and backgrounds share in this experience. And to see nonBlack people step fully into a new role in right-relationship with Blackness.
